We got up
We had breakfast
We started up the motor
We had to open about 15 locks
We had lunch
We opened another 15 locks
We had dinner at a pub
Highlights:
1. Walking ahead of the boat with mum and filling up the locks. You may think: 'What? But... That is work!' And it is, but not as much!
2. We saw an Eclipse Mallard! They are odd guy ducks. Their breasts are tanned and they have a high up green bit on their head! We have a photo. The big one below is not it.
3. OMG! THIS BIT IS ADORABLE! We saw a mummy duck with her bitty babies! When we went up to her, she shielded her babies and glared at us. The babies were TINY and one opened its mouth! It was soooo adorable!
4. I saw an otter in the canal. This is odd, because canals are ABSOLUTELY disgusting. They have dirty water and old poo and rubbish in it. EWWW! People go swimming in it!
5. The pub we went to had a funny claim to fame: Home of the pies. That's what it said on the sign...
The End
What are you doing at school?
ReplyDeleteKate and Jack, what's the longest distance you've managed to achieve between locks without having to open one?
ReplyDeleteIt's looking a bit chilly over there. On the other side of the ditch we had a tropical storm last weekend and it absolutely POURED. Lori called me home from work just before the house flooded--a storm drain had collapsed up the back of the section and it was POURING down the banks--I had to get the pick axe out to clear it all. Now we have temperatures around C33 with high humidity. Summer has arrived in North Carolina!
Hope you're having fun--looks like it! (And I also like exclamation marks!!!)
The other KG xxx
An hour- three or four KM!
DeleteAbout the flooding-Mum says open the front door and it will all come out!
I. LOVE. EXCLAMATION. MARKS!
Does the driver of your vehicle ever scratch the paint going through the narrow locks? Are you ever guilty of exceeding the speed limit? The canal water looks much nicer than the water flowing all over central Europe.
ReplyDeleteYes! He does it ALL THE TIME!
DeleteHey Kate!! YOU SAW AN OTTER AND DIDN'T TAKE A PICTURE!!! HOW COULD YOU!!! Na, its allright...but seriously! They are totes adorable!! The locks look kinda scary as they are so narrow and deep...also do you ever just sit on top of the boat as it putters along? No way the pie company that i live by is the real home of the pie. It is "The Pie You Can Crust!" (That's the slogan btw)
