OK, so, yesterday we went to the BRITISH MUSEUM!!!
Did you know: 'Museum' comes from the word muse! Completely off topic, but who cares?
Well, the museum was really, REALLY busy! There were huge crowds of people, and then you would find a quiet exhibition, and a tour guide would come through! And they were all speaking in different languages, so you couldn't understand a word of what they were saying!
Well, the biggest area they had was Greek and Roman stuff! YAY! So, inevitably, we were going to stay there for ages!!! But, actually, all it was was a whole lot of decapitated, naked guys looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk'. And then I found pottery! More decapitated, naked guys looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk'? Pretty much, except there were no centaurs. There were, however, little bronze guys! And they were...decapitated, naked, looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk', but again, without the centaurs. We saw friezes! And, guess what they had on them? Decapitated, naked guys looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk'!!! Man, what is it with the Greeks and Romans and decapitated, naked guys looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk'?
Then we went upstairs and saw the sweetest little clocks EVER!!! There was a big ship, and a iddle bitty clock on it!!! Then, there was a clock, and it was relying on gravity to work, you see (actually, you don't) and the iddle ball slid down the grooves, hit the lever and... wait for it... THE WHOLE THING FLIPPED OVER!!! And the ball rolled to the other side and started again! I suppose it was one of the things you have to be there to see, because I have made it sound pretty boring.
We passed through a coin room, and I learnt that 1 in every 35 pound coins is fake!!!
Then, we went to another Greek and Roman room. It had loads of statues of Nike (goddess of victory). She had a whole cabinet! And there were more Greek/Roman gods, heads and arms and hands (no, they were missing. If it isn't the head it's the hands!)
After that, we went to a Egyptian room FULL OF DEAD PEOPLE!!!! ALL DEAD!!!! Except for the tourists. They were still living. There were mummified bulls, kids and princesses. There was skulls and full skeletons... What I don't get is the fact that I seemed the only one even slightly put off by the fact we were IN A ROOM FULL OF DEAD PEOPLE!!!
Well, yeah, then we left, cos we were all tired . But, noo, they day wasn't over, was it? We hopped on the tube, changed onto the overground and speed off to a LOVELY lady's house (Rita, a friend of Granny's). She had the cutest tortoise EVER! It was hungry, and we got to feed it! Its little mouth opened and you poked the food in there. Then it bit Jack! A lot!
She made a great lunch (the lady, not the tortoise). There was good chicken pie and all that!!!
Then we went home, and I got to sleep! But, I forgot to do the blog, so here I am doing it now!
P.S. The first photo is dedicated to Wilbur and his owner. That is a nice photo, right? I was thinking maybe the skull...
P.P.S. To any Percy Jackson fans who have read Mark of Athena: Loads of the decapitated, naked guys looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk' came from the Athena Parthenon!!! In fact, the entire museum is modeled on the Athena Parthenon!!!!!! THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!! *laughs evilly and skips out of Turtletons angry glare* That means that THE GREEK RULE BRITAIN!!!! HAHAHA!!! Don't ask me how, though. I have no idea.
Thanks for not dedicating the scull to me! It's not very flattering...But the picture you chose was very nice.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like a lot of statues of men that are decapitated, naked, looking heroic or beating up centaurs for stealing their 'women folk'! I'm kinda glad that you didn't include a picture.
The tortoise looks really cute! Do you know what it's name was?
Anyway, goodnight! Apparently it is the morning of today (This is so confusing, but i think we are ahead of you) where you are, so i should really say good morning!
I wasn't kidding!!! They were!!!!!!!!!! The tortoise's name was Georgina/Samantha. You are ahead of us by 11 hours. It is 7:50 PM in Chch!!!!!!!

Hi Kate it's Sam here,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though you are having a great time. The tortoise looks so cute and that boat thing in the fifth photo looks cool too. What is your favourite thing that you have done so far??? When you were at the Natural History Museum did you go in the cocoon?
Got a teacher only day today, pouring with rain:( cross country tomorrow so you aren't missing much. From Sam.
Yeah, it is quite fun!!!! The boat clock was awesome!!!!! My favorite thing was most definitely the Natural History Museum. We were there for AGES and yet we didn't see the cocoon!!! We will be going back, though, so I will see it then!!!
